Got Those 'Bucket List Blues?'
By: Bill Graves,
“So often we rob tomorrows memories by today’s economies.”
By John Mason Brown
As many of us enter the Autumn of our lives, we start to take stock of our mortality. We reflect on the on friends and family that have crossed over and know we are walking behind them. We give thanks for times shared and rejoice in another day amongst the wind, the water and the sky.
And yet it’s human nature that thoughts of could’da, should’da, would’da tend to cross our minds. The things left unsaid or undone can haunt us but dwelling upon them does us no good. I think Jesse Jackson said it perfectly, “Our dreams must be stronger than our memories. We must be pulled by our dreams, rather than pushed by our memories.”
Unfinished business is what it’s all about. What do I want to do? Where do I want to go? Who can I help? What will make me feel good? These are but a few of the many questions rolling around in our heads.
The remedy could be as simple as volunteering at a church event or donating a pint of blood. It could be repaying an old debt. It might be the act of donating a car. Maybe becoming a participate in a club or group would give the satisfaction we seek.
Often what we would like to do verses what we can afford to do are in conflict. Money or the lack thereof ….
A possible cure for the “Bucket List Blues” could be a Reverse Mortgage. A Reverse Mortgage is a FHA/HUD insured loan for folks over the age of 62. It allows them to tap into the equity of their property. There are no monthly payments, no credit or income requirements and you can stay in your home for the rest of your life.
I have seen Reverse Mortgages used for just about anything you can imagine. Extravagances: like trips around the world, boats, cars, vacation homes and pools. Early inheritances: like college funds, helping the kids with the purchase of a new home, even a veterinarian clinic. Life-style: eliminate mortgage or credit card debts, routine landscaping, house cleaning and laundry, even a weekly bouquet of flowers.
